Description

Andrew (Drew) Parsons, the product of an abusive upbringing by his adoptive father, has spent 7 years in jail for a crime he committed in his teens. While in the penitentiary he befriends an older inmate, John, a seasoned veteran of the prison system, who mentors Drew, teaching him the path he has chosen isn't the one he should continue on.
Returning home, after his prison release, with the desire to change his life, Drew steps back into a world fraught with conflict and misery; but also to a mother who has always been there to protect him. Soon, however, he realizes he must break away from that environment if he is to have any chance of success.

Escaping his parents’ house, Drew sets out on a journey of discovery; to make a new future for himself, but also to learn the mystery of his past, to find his birth parents. As Drew begins to uncover his history he is swept into a world of lies, abandonment and violence, and the truths he finds are far from the ones he sought.

What people are saying

"Fissures is one of those books in which the reader can develop a healthy and well-earned respect for a man whose spirit should be crushed by the abuse and hostility he faces early on, and yet is not crushed."

"This is a well-written, heart-felt story of human relationships and the full range of complexities they bring - love, abuse, support, treachery, compassion, pain...emotions which, to some extent, we've all experienced at some time or another. Thus, the story is very relatable, heart-wrenching but real, and will easily have you hooked till the very end."

Teaser Tuesday~ Spring Cleaning by Brandi Salazar (Plus Tour and Giveaway!!)

Sometimes, relationships can be deadly.

Terri thought she was marrying a strong, loving man, only to find that beneath that handsome face lies something cold, brutal, and dangerous. After years of abuse, Randy takes things a little too far, and Terri finally summons the courage to take matters into her own hands and make her escape. But freedom comes at a price.

Forging a new life, Terri tries to forget her past, but she can't help looking over her shoulder at every turn. When prison bars can no longer hold Randy, and her past comes knocking, Terri finds that the strength to trust again may be her only salvation.

Spring Cleaning kicks off a week long tour today, so to celebrate, I am giving you a little teaser!

“You have a phone call, doll.” Passing off the receiver, she flashed a quick grin over her shoulder and said, “It’s a guy.”

Not knowing anyone who would possibly be calling her, let alone a man, not to mention at work, puzzled Terri. With a dark frown, she lifted the receiver and pressed it to her ear.

“Hello?”

At first she didn’t hear a thing, the noise in the bar drowning everything out. Turning her back to the room, she cupped her hand over the phone and repeated the greeting.

At first, she didn’t trust what her ears were hearing. The voice was too distinct, too familiar to be real. Her first inclination was to throw out the most obvious explanation and come up with something that she was better equipped to handle mentally. However, when his voice came down the line again, rough and laced with menace, reality slammed into her like a freight train.

“Hi there, sweets,” Randy said smoothly. “Miss me?”

Terri’s voice seemed to be caught in her throat, a lump that she had difficulty even getting her short breaths past.

“Judging by your silence, I’ll take that as a yes. Don’t try to deny it,” he snapped, then quickly reigned in his temper.

Terri didn’t realize she had been shaking her head. In that instant, she knew he was watching her.

Weekend Writing Warriors 8 Sentences~ That First Kiss by JC Valentine

"You look scared," he observed, the corners of his mouth twisting slightly.
"What are you doing?" Piper flattened herself against the door as Tate tilted his head toward her.
"Thinking," he said, distracted.
"About what?" Her heart pounded and she was finding it harder to breathe.
His lips whispered across hers. "Kissing you."

Sneak Peek Saturday~ That First Kiss by JC Valentine

“God, you’re so beautiful,” Tate murmured. Burying his face in her hair, he inhaled deeply. “You always smell so good.”
Slowly, Piper leaned back and turned her head to face him. When she met his gaze, she felt the intense heat reflected in his eyes zip through her body to settle between her thighs.
“You’re drunk,” she told him, unwilling to believe anything he said in his current state, but unable to deny how good his words made her feel.
Moving his hands up to cradle her face between his heated palms, Tate lowered his head until his lips hovered over hers. Her heart raced out of control and the focus of her world funneled into a narrow scope in which only she and Tate existed. She leaned into him, her body hungry for his touch, his kiss, his everything. As his breath mingled with hers, the bitter smell of alcohol hit her in the nose, bringing her back to reality.
Tate’s mind was clouded and he was in no position to make decisions. Piper had been dreaming of this moment since their brief encounter in the women’s bathroom, but if she kissed him now, she would be taking advantage of the situation. She had a feeling that Tate didn’t give out kisses lightly—she hadn’t seen him kiss any woman since, though she couldn’t say what he did in the privacy of a public bathroom. Call her crazy, but if he ever decided to kiss her again, she wanted it to mean something, and she wanted him to remember it in the morning.
Shaking her head, Piper tried to pull away, but Tate tightened his hold, drawing her closer and tilting her face up to meet his. In a blink, his mouth was on hers, his lips moving in a sensual dance that ignited a fire deep inside her.
