Sneak Peek Saturday~ Crossfire (Addicted, 2) by Brandi Salazar

“Patrick, this is Isaac, our new wherever-we-need-him guy,” I said, using Marcy’s words to describe him. “You’ll be training him while I’m away.”

Pursing his lips and narrowing his eyes, Patrick sized Isaac up from head to toe. “Anything I should know about this character before I take him under my wing and share all my secrets?” he asked, totally serious. 

I turned my own eyes on Isaac and regarded him for a long moment. “Well, he doesn’t talk much—”

“The deadliest kind.”

“He seems to catch on quick.”

“Highly observant. Possibly dangerous.” Patrick rubbed a thoughtful finger across his bottom lip. 

“And he smells good.” I blushed a little on that one, but I figured if I put it out there then it would instantly diffuse the awkward feeling building inside me since my discovery. It didn’t. 

“Gay?” Patrick asked him. 

Isaac’s eyes widened, immediately affronted by the question. “What? No!”

“Homophobe?” Patrick asked in a dangerous tone. 

I nearly laughed at the deer in the headlights look flashing in Isaac’s eyes. After a tense silence, Patrick took pity on him and burst out laughing. Punching him in the shoulder, Patrick said, “Dude, I’m just messin’ with you.”

Crossfire is the second book in the Addicted to Magic series. As you can see, it contains just as much, if not more, humor than the first! I love Jessica and her BFF Amber. They always give me a chuckle, but the laughs don't stop there. Keep your eye out for more of Crossfire as we close in on its August release date. About the scene: This takes place after Jessica's BFF Amber suffers a hormonal breakdown and she is giving her her own idea of a special gift to cheer her up.  


“I need you to get a carton of ice cream—”

“Mint chocolate chip!” Amber interrupted, sitting up straighter. 

“Mint chocolate chip,” I repeated. “A bag of Fritos to replace the old one.” I thumbed behind me and Carmen’s eyes followed the movement, narrowing with annoyance when he spotted Amber happily munching away at his stash. “And a box of Tampax, size super, cotton, not that synthetic crap.” 

Carmen froze and his attention snapped back to me, his eyes wide and fearful. I grinned, acting oblivious to his discomfort. “Got all that?” I asked when he made no move to blink or respond or even breathe. 

He swallowed audibly and blinked several times as he struggled to regain his composure. “Ye—” He choked on the word a little and cleared his throat to try again. “Yeah, I got it,” he said, his voice strained.

“’Kay, thanks!” I gently nudged him out the door and closed it behind him. 

“You are one wicked broad,” Amber said, her face aglow with pleasure. 

“Good present?” I asked, skipping back to the bed. 

“The best.”

Weekend Writing Warriors 8 Sentences~Addicted to Magic by Brandi Salazar

With nowhere else to go, I glared up into his dark eyes. "I hate you right now."

His expression turned stormy. "You hate me?" I nodded slowly. "Despise me?" I wasn't sure where he was going with this line of questioning, but I agreed to that too. Planting his hands against the wall on either side of my head, caging me with his body--just as he had at the party--he leaned down, putting us nose to nose. "Good, that means you're passionate."

I didn't have time for a rebuttal. In the next instant Carmen's lips were pressed against mine, hard and sure.

A little info about this scene: This takes place after Jessica returns from a date, only to find herself cornered by her best friend's overbearing and overprotective brother.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The holiday season is upon us and I am so thrilled to get some time off to relax and cherish this time I have with my family. And to think today is the day that the world was supposed to end. Unless D-Day is slated to happen at midnight, I think we are in the clear. Whew!
